[ Some days being Shinya's body guard is pretty normal. Following around the man he's known since they were both small is, at other times, an adventure. Saying they grew up together would be putting a sort of weight of familiarity on their relationship that isn't quite correct.
For one, they both know their place. Shinya is a valued Hiiragi prince, Sion is his genetically modified bodyguard.
What that means in reality, of course, is different than how it appears to most outsiders. For one, that pampered prince has undergone experiments since he was five or six, torture training, modification, exacting magical and scientific enhancement and training since a young age. There was nothing pampered in Shinya's childhood, Sion knows, because Sion was there, watching. Some of it, anyway, because he had his own training and modification--genetic manipulation to enhance his reflexes, speed, strength, healing time, and presumably loyalty. Appearance control and sterilization because a Hiiragi tool should be fit for use in any way but not too fit for getting accidental children. Combat, tactical, technical and medical training for his primary purpose, and etiquette and cooking for more domestic moments, when he might be called on to use those skills. Though Shinya should have had his own course of poison resistance training, Sion was also put through that, and by the time Shinya was actually old enough to need his own personal guard enough to have Sion assigned to him most of the time, they were both teenagers, well set in their roles and behaviors.
But that doesn't mean there is no familiarity in their relationship. Years spent following Shinya here and there, accepting his sharp edges and pushing back at times enough to surprise Shinya, they established a decent rapport. At least Sion assumed they had, Shinya never divulged anything to him, never let down his guard though Sion had, on accident once or twice, seen him vulnerable.
That doesn't stop Shinya from being a little shit, Sion discovered with a sigh, deactivating the, admittedly incredibly convincing, holo-avatar that presumably Shinya thought would keep him distracted. He has to admit, with some shame, that it had him fooled for almost twenty minutes, and that is both humiliating and disturbing.
He checks the hotel suite they were staying in--luxurious as befit a Hiiragi--just to be on the safe side, and then it's a matter of tracking Shinya's movements from there. Which is not, actually, very simple and involves quite a bit of stopping, asking people things, or straight up hacking into the video feeds of cameras along whatever route he's determined Shinya was most likely on.
And he has to do it discreetly. Because he has no intention of sending Shinya's odd outing in his usual report to the Hiiragi--just as he never mentions any behavior that seems perhaps out of line in his reports--but that also means he can't be obvious about his aim or who he is himself or who he is looking for without the potential of it getting back to the Hiiragi. And if it does, the lack of it in his report might be questioned...
He was starting to get a headache. Sometimes being Shinya's bodyguard was a job that was very much a headache. But it turned out, at least, that the trail didn't go too far and he was not so cold on Shinya's tail as he might have thought.
The trail led to a club, one of those with dark floors and flashing neon lights and loud music and suspicious pills passing around as gyrating dancers surged to a bass beat he could feel in his teeth. Scanning the floor was futile so he asked one of the staff if a white haired young man with bright blue eyes--and was directed to one of the private rooms with a wink and giggle after slipping the woman a few credits for the information.
And that is how he came to be standing here, watching a high ranking member of one the Hiiragi's most powerful enemies slip away from the room he's been directed to. He is, fortunately, in the shadows when the man passed. He waits, briefly, then steps forward, opening the door for himself and stepping in to find about what he expects, and the object of his little hunt across the city. ]
